After facing a federal case over acquiring machine guns for a local business, Frederick County, Maryland, Sheriff Chuck Jenkins is discussing about why he is returning to duty after a self-imposed leave of absence.“It didn’t shock anybody, more than to shock me,” Jenkins told the Frederick Report about a grand jury indictment from April.Jenkins and the owner of a shooting range in the county face charges of conspiracy and making false statements. Prosecutors said he conspired with Robert Justin Krop to falsify documents in order to buy machine guns for Krop’s business, The Machine Gun Nest shooting range. They have both pleaded not guilty to all charges.During the interview posted on Friday, he refused to go into details about the case, but was able to shed light on why he stepped away from the office immediately after the indictment for several months.“Nobody asked me, nobody forced me, I felt it was the right thing to do at that time,” he said.He...Sanford alligator missing upper jaw finds new home at Gatorland in Orlando

ORLANDO, Fla. (WSVN) — An alligator with a missing upper jaw has found a new lease on life at Gatorland in Orlando after two wranglers rescued her. After being rescued last week, the alligator now resides at Gatorland, where the team ensures it receives the attention it rightfully deserves. Despite its challenging condition, the alligator’s wound has healed over time. “So she has been able to feed herself without a top jaw for some time now. That’s impressive,” said one Gatorland worker. “I mean she’s really getting a lot of attention right now. I hope it doesn’t go to her head and become a little diva. But right now she’s very good, very down to earth. Very humble at this point.” Affectionately named Hope, the alligator will undergo a special diet regimen and remain separated from other animals until deemed ready for integration.Hope’s journey to recovery began when Flynn, with the assistance of his son Chase, respo...Most Asian EVs to be excluded from French car subsidy scheme

PARIS — Most electric cars produced in Asia are likely to be excluded from France’s electric vehicle purchase subsidy scheme as of next year as Paris looks to clamp down on EVs from China. The French government is set to issue a decree Tuesday that spells out new new criteria for awarding the subsidy; the list of eligible vehicles will be published in mid-December, a French government official told reporters today. The scheme pays up to €7,000 for lower-income people buying an EV and €5,000 for others.Buyers of some Asian-made cars might still get the cash, “but it will not be the majority of them according to modeling we have done,” the official said, adding: “If you produce vehicles [in a country] with a very carbon-intensive energy mix, you will have a hard time remaining eligible for the bonus.”The French Agency for the Ecological Transition will assess applications from carmakers and decide which models will still be eligible for the subsidy on the ...Germany mulls new energy price subsidy for industries

The German government appears to be moving closer to adopting a new multibillion-euro subsidy scheme to compensate industries for high energy costs, although specifics on how such a plan would work and be financed remain murky.Berlin is “working intensively” on a potential solution to conceive such an energy subsidy, Steffen Hebestreit, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s spokesman, told reporters on Friday. On Monday, a government spokesperson said that “different proposals” are “being examined and carefully weighed” as part of ongoing discussions between the chancellery and the economy and finance ministries.Previously, the chancellery had ruled out such a subsidy scheme, partly because such a measure could well clash with EU rules that limit state aid for industry. But give Germany’s recent economic stagnation, the government has come under increasing pressure to fortify the county’s industrial backbone.Economy Minister Robert Habeck has for months pushed for such an energy subsidy s...Framingham man killed in ATV crash in Vermont

Warning that action is “desperately needed” to address upheaval at the Cannabis Control Commission, the Senate’s top Republican and several other lawmakers urged their colleagues Monday to subject the state’s marijuana regulatory agency to new scrutiny.A quintet of legislators said they believe the Joint Committee on Cannabis Policy should open its own oversight hearing to examine publicly reported problems at the CCC or advance legislation that would stand up an independent internal audit unit within the agency.Their request comes four days after Treasurer Deborah Goldberg suspended CCC Chair Shannon O’Brien for undisclosed reasons. The lawmakers asked their colleagues to investigate why O’Brien is suspended, who is executing the chair’s duties in her stead, and what legislative changes might improve the situation. In their nine-page letter, the legislators also described concerns over “ongoing governance issues” a...Latest news
