Crews battle large brush fire in Northborough

NORTHBOROUGH, MASS. (WHDH) – A large brush fire in Northborough sent smoke rising into the sky and drew an emergency response Friday. Crews were on scene as of around 2:30 p.m. in the Mount Pisgah area.In a message on social media, police asked community members to avoid the area, adding that roads were closed. https://twitter.com/NorthboroughPD/status/1646943516327550976Overhead, SKY7-HD captured video of flames as fire crews could be seen nearby. Officials have continued to share warnings about dangerous fire conditions this week as multiple fires have kept crews busy around the state. In Northborough, crews were already on scene on Tuesday of this week at a separate brush fire off Church Street. Fire Chief David Parenti said the fire on Tuesday started in a backyard area before wind spread it up a hill and across three acres of land.This is a developing story; stay with 7NEWS on-air and online for the latest updates.

SDPD: Active shooter reported at Balboa Park Naval Medical Center, no shots fired

SAN DIEGO -- Naval Medical Center San Diego near Balboa Park is on lockdown after an active shooter was reported inside the hospital, San Diego police confirmed.Authorities said that there was no active gunfire with the reports of a possible gunman. There are no injuries, SDPD said.One suspect was detained sometime before 11 a.m. As of 11:40 a.m., a second person was taken into custody, but SDPD said they did not have a gun on them.SDPD said that they are working with the Navy to clear the campus. It is unclear what buildings are being evacuated.SkyFOX aerial footage showed a heavy police presence around the hospital. SDPD vehicles are blocking off Bob Wilson Drive into the medical center. The FOX 5 crew on the scene noted that there is a line of cars is currently on Florida Drive waiting to get back into the hospital.Authorities are encouraging people to stay clear of the area.This is a developing story.
