For the first time, it looks as though that may not happen, and the government could conceivably default on its obligations. Man killed in Southwest DC shooting

Police in D.C. are investigating a shooting that killed a man in Southwest D.C. early Thursday morning.A report of a shooting on Forrester Street near Shepherd Parkway came in just after 1:35 a.m.Officers arrived at the scene and found Adrian Burgess, 19, of Northwest D.C., with gunshot wounds.He died at the scene.No suspect has been named at this time.D.C. police are offering a reward of up to $25,000 to anyone that provides information that leads to an arrest.Anyone with information can submit a tip by calling 202-727-9099 or texting their tip line at 50411.Below is a map of where the shooting took place. NEW YORK (AP) — As concerns grow over increasingly powerful artificial intelligence systems like ChatGPT, the nation’s financial watchdog says it’s working to ensure that companies follow the law when they’re using AI.Already, automated systems and algorithms help determine credit ratings, loan terms, bank account fees, and other aspects of our financial lives. Oakton High School sophomore Ashley Wang’s expectations for her first ever pageant were so low she said she didn’t tell any of her friends — she even forgot to tell her brother.The Fairfax County teen has been a competitive dancer since she was five years old. EU and Pfizer renegotiate controversial vaccine contract

The European Commission and U.S. pharmaceutical giant Pfizer have renegotiated a massive contract for COVID-19 vaccine doses that the EU entered into at the height of the pandemic.The Commission announced that the two parties had agreed Pfizer would spread out deliveries over the course of the next four years, into 2027, and to reduce the total amount of doses down from the 450 million that were due to be delivered this year. However, the Commission didn’t disclose the new total in its announcement. When asked by POLITICO about the revised delivery figure, Commission Health Spokesperson Stefan de Keersmaecker referred POLITICO to EU member countries for a response. “Vaccine strategies or vaccine programs are designed and implemented by the member states,” said de Keersmaecker. Iran has released Olivier Vandecasteele, a Belgian humanitarian worker who has been detained in Iran for more than a year, Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Croo said in a statement Friday.“Olivier Vandecasteele is on his way to Belgium,” De Croo said. “If all goes as planned, he will be with us tonight.”A Belgian official confirmed to POLITICO that one individual was on his way to Iran as part of a prisoner swap. Investigation underway after armed person fatally shot by police in Manchester, NH

Authorities are investigating a fatal officer-involved shooting in Manchester, New Hampshire on Friday, officials said.Officers responding to a report of a person armed with a firearm at 1143 Mammoth Road around 3:25 a.m. found the armed person outside of the home, according to the attorney general’s office. During the ensuing encounter, multiple Manchester police officers discharged their firearms.Life-saving measures were attempted, but the armed resident was shot and has died. The identity of that individual is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
