Man with mental health history sentenced to more than 2 decades in wife’s slaying with meat cleaver

(AP) — A Vermont man with a history of mental health issues who was convicted of killing his wife with a meat cleaver and injuring his mother-in-law will serve at least 27 years in prison. “It was an accident,” Aita Gurung said during his two-day sentencing hearing, which concluded Wednesday. “My mind was not working.” A jury convicted Gurung last year of killing his wife, Yogeswari Khadka, 32, in Burlington, and attempted second-degree murder in the attack on his mother-in-law, hours after he had sought mental health treatment at a local hospital. The attacks happened in 2017 and he was charged. But the charges were dropped in 2019 by the county prosecutor, who said evidence showed Gurung was legally insane at the time. Then-Attorney General T.J. Donovan refiled the charges months later after Republican Gov. Phil Scott asked him to review the case. Now, if you are caught speeding or running a red light by camera, you must legally pay the fine.Senate Bill 23-200 titled "Automated Vehicle Identification Systems" passed in June, but it didn't get a lot of attention despite its substantial changes. What happens if you get a red light ticket in Denver? Originally, drivers could legally avoid paying red light camera citations in Colorado. DENVER (KDVR) — A man who was arrested on Dec. 16 in connection to the death of a 43-year-old woman is now facing one count of first-degree murder, two counts of stalking and one count of criminal impersonation.Daniel Krug, 43, is facing these felony charges in connection to the death of Kristil Krug, 43, whose body was found inside a Broomfield home at around noon on Dec. 14. Driver charged in Broomfield crash that killed mom, son Kristil's body was found after police were called to a home in the 3100 block of Promontory Loop for a welfare check. Police said her body had "apparent injuries."Daniel was scheduled to appear in court on Dec. 21 for a return filing of charges hearing. A shooter killed at least 15 people and injured dozens more in a violent attack at Charles University in Prague on Thursday afternoon before being killed himself, according to Czech police.“The shooter has been eliminated!!!
