Average rent in Travis County hits $1,700 a month: Report

AUSTIN (KXAN) -- A report looking at five Central Texas counties found despite slight reprieve, rent and home prices are still going up year-over-year. Across five counties in our Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) -- Bastrop, Caldwell, Hays, Williamson and Travis -- home sale prices increased overall by nearly 8% from 2021 to 2022. The median home price across the MSA was more than $500,000 last year, according to the report.While more expensive prices have historically been concentrated in Austin, the report shows the counties with the largest increases in average rent prices were actually the exterior counties as people were pushed out of central Austin. AUSTIN (KXAN) — It’s been over a week since Fourth of July festivities wrapped up in Austin.Throughout the Independence Day weekend, Austin witnessed thousands of people on paddleboards, kayaks and boats in Lady Bird Lake.This week, cleanup efforts have continued as a lot of litter is still floating on the lake. Police are investigating after a driver struck a pedestrian in St. Paul on Tuesday night and he died at the scene.A pedestrian died July 11, 2023, after he was struck by a driver in the area of Concordia Avenue and Dale Street in St. Paul. (Courtesy of the St. Paul Police Department)The collision happened in the Summit-University neighborhood about 9:15 p.m., as the driver headed east on Concordia Avenue in the Dale Street area.The driver is cooperating with the investigation, said Sgt. HIGHLAND, Ill. - Three people are dead after a Greyhound bus crash on Interstate-70 in Highland, Illinois, early Wednesday morning.The crash took place on I-70 westbound near the 'Silverlake West' Rest Stop, where crews shared that the crash took place around 2:00 a.m., and a Greyhound traveling from Indianapolis, Indiana to St. Louis crashed into three parked rigs on the exit ramp heading to the rest area.The Illinois State Police confirmed that four passengers on board were taken to a nearby hospital via helicopter, 10 more passengers were driven to area hospitals, and three more riders died. 3 killed, several injured in Greyhound bus crash One lane on I-70 WB is open, but drivers are urged to take Highway 40 WB as an alternate route.
