(AP) — Kevin Miller hit a 3-pointer to give Wake Forest the lead in overtime, then sealed the victory with a pair of free throws as the Demon Deacons held off Miami 86-82 in their Atlantic Coast Conference home opener on Saturday.Wake Forest (11-3, 3-0) is now 9-0 on its home court and its nine-game win streak is the program’s longest since 2008-09, when the Deacons won 16 straight games. An apparent tornado touched down in parts of downtown Fort Lauderdale, fire officials said, a fearsome sight that was recorded on video by multiple witnesses.According to Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue, the funnel cloud formed over land and touched down west of Las Olas and the Intracoastal Waterway, just before 6 p.m., Saturday.Officials with the National Weather Service said it was initially located near Federal Highway and Southeast 15th Street before making its way toward Las Olas Boulevard.As the tornado gained strength, FLFR officials said, it made contact with some structures, power lines and marine vessels before it moved quickly toward the east and reached the ocean.NWS officials had issued a tornado warning for a section of southeastern Broward County extending south of downtown toward Port Everglades. KSWB -- Shots rang out at an apartment complex near El Cajon Saturday afternoon, prompting a response from the San Diego County Sheriff's Department.Authorities told FOX 5 the incident occurred on the 1600 block of Hilton Head Court around 12:43 p.m. When deputies arrived, two people -- a man and a woman of unknown age -- were found with gunshot wounds. SDSO said the woman was transported to a local hospital in critical condition, while the man was pronounced dead at the scene. HONOLULU (KHON2) -- A fun joyride or a fatality waiting to happen? A recent survey completed by Anidjar and Levine ruled Hawaii the most dangerous state for cyclists and motorcyclists. The study gave the latest National Highway Traffic Safety Administration data on fatal collisions between the years of 2017 and 2021 in order to compare the amount of total fatal crashes to total fatal crashes involving two-wheeled vehicles.
