WASHINGTON (AP) — Former Vice President Mike Pence will not appeal a judge’s order compelling him to testify in the Justice Department’s investigation into efforts to overturn the results of the 2020 election, a spokesman said Wednesday. The decision sets the stage for a possible appearance by Pence in the coming weeks before a federal grand jury.Pence was subpoenaed months ago by the special counsel investigating attempts by former President Donald Trump and his allies to undo the election results before the riot at the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021.Lawyers for Trump objected to the subpoena on executive privilege grounds, but a federal judge in Washington last week rejected those arguments, forcing Pence to testify. U.S. District Court Judge James Boasberg did give Pence a win by accepting arguments by Pence’s lawyers that, for constitutional reasons, he could not be questioned about his actions on Jan. 6.Marlins CF Chisholm exits with injury after steal attempt

(CNN) — LSU star Angel Reese says that neither she, nor her team, would be visiting the White House after the Tigers defeated the Iowa Hawkeyes 102-85 to win their first basketball national championship.Traditionally, the national champions would be invited to the White House. But after comments from first lady Jill Biden suggesting that Iowa be invited as well before appearing to walk that back, Reese told “I AM ATHLETE” podcast hosts Brandon Marshall and Ashley Nicole Moss: “I don’t accept the apology because you said what you said … You can’t go back on certain things that you say … They can have that spotlight. We’ll go to the Obamas.’ We’ll go see Michelle. We’ll see Barack.”Reese, who was named the women’s NCAA tournament’s Most Outstanding Player as a result of her standout performances, also said separately: “I just know if the roles were reversed, they wouldn’...Bed Bath & Beyond gets $120 million lifeline to help it stock near-empty shelves

(CNN) — Cash-starved Bed, Bath & Beyond, which is scrambling to avoid bankruptcy, announced a $120 million lifeline to help it stock near-empty shelves. One reason that the chain’s sales have fallen and losses have mounted is that the company doesn’t have the funds needed to buy inventory in order to stock shelves.“Although we moved quickly and effectively to change the assortment and other merchandising and marketing strategies, inventory was constrained and we did not achieve our goals,” CEO Sue Gove said in a statement in January. The $120 million in financial help is specifically designed to address the need to stock those shelves and attract shoppers back to something other than the “store closing” sales at the locations slated for closure. The money comes from ReStore Capital, which will purchase up to $120 million of merchandise from Bed, Bath & Beyond’s suppliers in order to supplement stock at Bed Bath & Bey...Ravens sidestep questions about QB Lamar Jackson; GM Eric DeCosta open to drafting a quarterback in 1st round

Wednesday’s predraft news conference involving Ravens decision-makers loomed as general manager Eric DeCosta’s first opportunity to publicly address Lamar Jackson’s recent public trade request. But DeCosta, coach John Harbaugh and director of player personnel Joe Hortiz largely avoided any in-depth discussion of the offseason’s dominant storyline, citing their desire to keep the focus on their preparations for the upcoming NFL draft, which is scheduled to begin April 27, rather than their star quarterback. At the start of the session with the media, a team spokesperson requested that reporters ask questions pertaining to the draft. When the first question directed at DeCosta sought his reaction to Jackson’s tweet on March 27 that claimed the Ravens have “not been interested in meeting my value,” DeCosta showed an elusiveness the mobile quarterback might have envied.“I understand the need to ask those kinds of questions,” he said. &...Massachusetts synagogues, churches, mosques, concert halls receive $3 million in security grants
