Boy with terminal brain cancer embarks on journey of becoming honorary police officer at multiple agencies

AURORA, Co. (WSVN) – A boy battling terminal brain and spine cancer for half of his life accomplished another milestone Monday, when he was sworn in by Aurora Police Department.Officer Devarjaye Daniel, 11, repeated the oath word for word as he held his right hand up. His ultimate goal is to be sworn in by 758 agencies across the country and according to his family, he is close to reaching that goal.His father, Theodis Daniel, was present as his son promised to protect and serve others. The two have been on the road raising awareness about children battling cancer while meeting with law enforcement agencies.Daniel said the reason he choose the number 758 is in honor of his friend Abigail Arias, who lost her cancer battle in 2019. A bicyclist is dead following a hit-and-run crash in Lynn Wednesday morning, according to police.The incident happened on Route 107 northbound between Ida and Cooper Streets. One person is still missing Wednesday morning in connection with a fire at a rooming house in New Bedford that killed one person, hurt several others, and displaced more than two dozen people, according to local officials. Firefighters were called to the scene around 3 p.m. and remained on scene overnight, pouring water on the four-story structure on the corner of Tallman Street and Acushnet Avenue. Officials announced earlier Tuesday afternoon that at least one person had died. Five other people were taken to the hospital, with three in serious condition. Officials later said the person who died was an adult male. BRUNSWICK, Georgia (WANF) — The father of a 19-year-old, who was allegedly tortured by teens and nearly died at a party on the Georgia coast, told police the incident wasn’t the first time his son returned home hurt, a police report revealed.According to the report, obtained by Atlanta News First, Trent Lerhkamp’s father told investigators his son “never returns normal” after visiting the St. Simons Island home of an unidentified minor. Three minors dropped Lehrkamp off at Southeast Georgia Health System in Brunswick on the night of March 21. EL CAJON, Calif. -- El Cajon Mayor Bill Wells gave his State of the City address Tuesday, the same day city council made some big moves toward policy changes after an alleged sexual assault at a Motel 6.Mayor Wells began his address by telling the community the state of the city is “outstanding.” He said finances in order and that El Cajon is taking on the toughest challenges in the region, the biggest being homelessness.“Through the East County Transitional Living Center, we found emergency housing for 498 individuals last year. Many of these folks are now on a path to overcoming their addictions,” Wells said. Wells added the city offers about a dozen different programs to combat homelessness or related issues.
