Bill would dissolve, replace Texas juvenile justice system

AUSTIN (KXAN) -- Texas State Rep. James Talarico, D-Austin, introduced a bill Thursday that would overhaul the state's juvenile justice system. House Bill 4356 would dissolve the Texas Juvenile Justice Department by 2030 and replace it with a new office — the Office of Youth Safety and Rehabilitation — according to a press release from Talarico's office. Lawmakers call for immediate action for collapsing Texas juvenile prison system The new office would use the savings from closing juvenile detention centers - which the release refers to as child prisons - to "build a system to rehabilitate kids closer to home -- including secure rehab centers for kids deemed a risk to themselves or others."The legislation aims to change the state's approach to juvenile justice by shifting the focus away from incarceration and toward rehabilitation, the release said. Another Stillwater prison worker assaulted, 3rd incident in week

Another prison worker was assaulted by an inmate Thursday, the seventh injured this week.A corrections sergeant “was injured in an unprovoked inmate assault” about 8:15 a.m. at the Minnesota Correctional Facility-Stillwater in Bayport, the Minnesota Department of Corrections said in a statement.“During a routine facility unit movement, an inmate rushed up to the sergeant and began striking him in the face,” the statement continued. “Other corrections officers immediately responded to stop the assault.”The sergeant was taken to Lakeview Hospital in Stillwater for evaluation and treatment of injuries.Three prison workers were assaulted by two inmates Tuesday at the Minnesota Correctional Facility-Oak Park Heights. On Monday, a fight broke out among several inmates at the Stillwater prison and three prison employees were assaulted when they intervened.“We will take every appropriate action to stop these senseless acts of violence against our staff,” ...

The Cure are coming back to the X and promise no dynamically priced or platinum tickets

British goth rock legends the Cure will return to St. Paul’s Xcel Energy Center on June 8 and the band is promising tickets are priced “to benefit fans.”But as has become common for local arena concerts, neither the venue nor the promoter announced ticket prices. The band is using Ticketmaster’s Verified Fan program and fans must register by noon Monday, with tickets going on sale at 10 a.m. March 15. For reference, the Cure’s previous concert at the X in 2016 – which was their first local gig in 20 years – was priced from $85 to $25.“We have priced tickets to benefit fans and our efforts to block scalpers and limit inflated resale prices are being supported by our ticketing partners,” reads a note on the band’s website. Police investigate a robbery at Glenville Speedway

GLENVILLE, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- Police are investigating a robbery reported at the Speedway at 123 Freemans Bridge Road on Thursday morning. According to the report, the suspect entered the store, handed a note to the employee that implied he had a weapon, took a significant amount of cash, and left. The suspect drove westbound on Dutch Meadows Lane. The suspect is also believed to have placed a paper bag over his license plate.Surveillance footage of the suspect shows a white male wearing a blue hoodie sweatshirt, black pants, black and white shoes, a black baseball hat with a white logo, and what appears to be an N-95 mask. Ferguson man charged in recent motorcycles, ATV thefts; 2nd suspect at large

CLAYTON, Mo. - A Ferguson man was charged Wednesday in connection with a recent series of motorcycle and ATV thefts in St. Louis County. Authorities are looking for a second individual involved in the crimes.The St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney's Office charged Mark Misuraca, 38, with two counts of stealing - over $750, three counts of second-degree burglary, and two counts of stealing a motor vehicle. He remains jailed on a $50,000 cash-only bond.Police claim Misuraca broke into a Wally's gas station on Nov. 27, 2022, and stole an industrial smoker. The suspect drove a white Econoline van to and from the scene. The smoker, valued over $750, was not recovered. (AP) — Missouri voters could decide on whether to restore abortion rights in the state if constitutional amendments made public Thursday make it to the 2024 ballot.The proposals would amend Missouri's Constitution to protect abortion rights and pregnant women, as well as access to birth control.Currently, most abortions are outlawed in the state. There are exceptions for medical emergencies, but not for cases of rape or incest.The Missouri proposals are backed by a new group called Missourians for Constitutional Freedom, which has hired at least one Missouri Democratic strategist.
