ST. LOUIS (AP) — One of the largest urgent care chains in Missouri will pay $9.1 million to settle allegations that the company submitted false claims for medical services, including COVID-19 testing.The U.S. Attorney's Office in St. Louis on Thursday announced the settlement with Total Access Urgent Care, which operates more than two dozen clinics in the St. Louis area.“This settlement will fully repay three federal health care programs for TAUC's overbilling for COVID tests and office visits,” U.S. Attorney Sayler A. Fleming said in a news release.Federal prosecutors said Total Access Urgent Care submitted false insurance claims for COVID-19 testing between April 2021 and December 2021, using improper billing codes that resulted in the company getting reimbursements at a rate that was too high.From 2017 to 2021, TAUC was accused of falsely claiming that doctors participated in some office visits that were actually overseen by non-physician practitioners. 7-Eleven closing decade-old store near East High

A 7-Eleven convenience store that has operated for more than a decade near East High School is closing.Merchandise at the 2341 E. Colfax Ave. store is 50% off, with the exception of lottery tickets and tobacco products, according to signs posted outside the store.The store at the corner of Colfax and Josephine opened in 2011. Its building was erected specifically for 7-Eleven.The property is owned by Denver-based Kentro Group. Kentro executive Jimmy Balafas said 7-Eleven corporate, which owns the store, sent him a letter about the closure but didn’t explain the reason for it.Balafas said 7-Eleven’s lease for the property extends another couple years. Inmate dies in Douglas County jail, investigation underway

An inmate at the Douglas County Detention Center died Wednesday morning, sheriff’s deputies said Thursday.At 5 a.m. Wednesday, Douglas County Sheriff’s Office deputies stationed at the county detention center responded to an inmate suffering an unknown medical issue, according to a Thursday news release from the department.When deputies arrived, the inmate was unconscious and not breathing, the news release stated.Deputies immediately started lifesaving efforts on-scene and transported the inmate to a nearby hospital, where he was later declared dead by medical staff, the release stated.According to the release, there were no signs of a physical altercation or suspicious activity, but the investigation is ongoing.The Douglas County Coroner’s Office conducted an autopsy Thursday and is expected to release the inmate’s name and cause of death later Thursday afternoon.This is a developing story.Related ArticlesCrime and Public Safety | Driver was drun...

SAN JOSE — Coroner’s officials have concluded that a man’s death following a street fight on the southern edges of the city last year was a homicide, according to San Jose police.The death was reported July 11, 2022, at around 12:50 p.m. in the 6400 block of Hellyer Avenue. Responding police officers found a man who was receiving CPR from a bystander; he was eventually taken to a hospital, where he died.An ensuing investigation determined that the man who died had been in a fight with an unknown person before the police call. SAN JOSE – San Jose Sharks center Nico Sturm remains out indefinitely but is slowly starting to make progress from an injury he suffered to his hand/wrist area earlier this month.Sturm, who hasn’t played since Dec. 12 when he was injured in the third period of San Jose’s game with the Winnipeg Jets, is at least now able to tie his skates and grip his stick as he continues to keep up his conditioning with some on-ice drills after the Sharks finish practice.Sturm said he had a procedure done on the inside of his hand last Friday to correct a problem that he’s had for about a year.Sturm, one of the NHL’s faceoff leaders, credited Sharks head athletic trainer Ray Tufts for getting him ready to play in the past whenever he’s had issues with his hand.
