After COVID-era fall, childhood immunizations are rising again

By Jacqueline Howard | CNNMillions of children around the world missed routine childhood vaccinations against diseases such as measles, diphtheria and tetanus during the Covid-19 pandemic, but new data suggests that this decline may be reversing.Globally, 4 million more children worldwide received routine childhood immunizations last year than in the previous year, according to estimates released Monday by the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and the World Health Organization (WHO).“As opposed to what we were having over the last two years, which was a continued decline of coverage across several countries, this year we see an uptick,” said Dr. Ephrem Lemango, associate director of immunization at UNICEF.The number of children who missed all of their routine immunizations fell from 18.1 million in 2021 to 14.3 million last year. A former San Jose Sharks forward said he was pressured by a coach with the team’s AHL affiliate to fight opposing players, adding that it was a key factor in his decision not to re-sign with the organization.Martin Kaut, whom the Sharks acquired from Colorado in January, told the Czech website iDNES.cz in a story published Sunday that an unnamed Barracuda coach would choose an opponent, usually a fellow Czech-born player, before each game for him to fight. (KRON) -- At least 70 shots were fired outside a party hosted by a restaurant in downtown Antioch Saturday, police said. A 45-year-old Antioch man was killed in the melee on H Street. Two women were also shot, but they are expected to survive, police said Monday.No arrests have been made in connection to the shooting near Monica’s Riverview, a restaurant and bar at 1 Street.
