(NEXSTAR) — Multiple states have a chance at seeing the northern lights Thursday and into Friday, all thanks to an active bout of space weather, but Colorado may not be among them.NOAA's Space Weather Prediction Center upgraded its geomagnetic storm watch for Friday, noting that multiple coronal mass ejections, or CMEs, are expected to impact Earth in the coming days. With three CMEs already inbound and a fourth expected, forecasters upgraded the storm watch Wednesday evening to a G3 (on a strength scale of 1 to 5). What causes the northern lights? Colorado State Patrol providing funds for car, catalytic converter theft victims

DENVER (KDVR) -- The Colorado State Patrol is beginning to facilitate a program for victims of auto or catalytic converter theft funds to offset victims' secondary costs associated with those thefts.CSP will specifically be able to help motor vehicle and catalytic converter theft victims with secondary costs associated with a stolen vehicle — but none of the primary costs associated with vehicle repair or replacement qualify. Colorado received $9.3M in federal funds for wildfire resilience work

DENVER (KDVR) -- Colorado received $9.3 million in the 2023 fiscal year for wildfire resilience work and fuel management projects, the U.S. Department of the Interior announced Thursday.The funds are part of a $468 million allocation for wildfire risk reduction, impact mitigation and burn area rehabilitation across the country. The influx of funding allowed the DOI to complete fuel management projects on over 2.5 million acres of land during the 2023 fiscal year — a 30% increase over the 2022 fiscal year. MIAA Tournament Management Committee listens to new football proposal

The MIAA Football Committee took the first step in hopes of convincing the state it had a better playoff proposal.Football Committee chairman Jay Costa and Milton football coach Steve Dembowski joined in on the two-hour MIAA Tournament Management Committee meeting Thursday morning and laid out plans for a revamped football structure. Costa said the goal was to open some dialogue and create a sub-committee made up of football committee and TMC members to look at the proposal.“We are here to propose some modifications,” Costa said of the plan, which would go into effect for the 2025 season if accepted. “We’ve had the statewide system and after a few years of evaluation, we feel there can be some tweaks to it. A U.S. Marine from Orange County has admitted to his role in a 2022 attack at a Planned Parenthood in which he and another man threw a Molotov cocktail at a clinic under the cover of night. He also admitted to planning more attacks at other various sites in Southern California.Chance Brannon, 24, of San Juan Capistrano, pleaded guilty to conspiracy, destruction of property and targeting a reproductive health services facility - a violation of the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances Act. The firebombing happened on March 13, 2022, at a Planned Parenthood clinic in Costa Mesa. Toronto police have laid additional charges in a hate-motivated mischief investigation after the Indigo store at Bay Street and Bloor Street West was vandalized with red paint and posters.In total 11 people were arrested in connection to the incident on the morning Friday, November 10, 2023. Police say the suspects glued posters to the doors and windows of the bookstore at the corner of Bay Street and Bloor Street West.Police said the suspects then poured red paint on the windows and sidewalk.
