San Francisco Giants assistant coach Alyssa Nakken said she has felt nothing but love and support from everyone in the organization since she revealed to them earlier this summer that she and her husband were expecting their first child in February.But Nakken has also experienced some mental and physical health challenges since her pregnancy began.Nakken was too ill to join the Giants on a 10-day road trip last month through Pittsburgh, Cincinnati, Washington, and Detroit and told the San Francisco Chronicle on Wednesday that she experienced some gloomy times while being away from the team.“To be completely honest, there were some dark moments, for sure, because I love being active and on the field and around this team day in and day out, and there was a good stretch of time where I just couldn’t get out of bed,” Nakken told the Chronicle’s Susan Slusser. “I couldn’t really move. What many in the Bay Area may have hoped would be a brief tangle with steamy, muggy air has lingered longer than  National Weather Service forecasters expected.Now residents and meteorologists are bracing for the moisture-filled air to deliver its most potent weather so far — in the form of lightning and thunder.The weather service issued a severe weather outlook for Thursday afternoon in Bay Area mountains along the Diablo Range. Thunderstorms will be possible through the early evening and could bring areas of heavy rainfall, small hail, lightning and rural flooding.The area covers the mountain range from Coalinga to Santa Rosa.“We’ve got that lingering upper-level moisture, and we have that daytime heating,” NWS meteorologist Matt Mehle said. “That’s what is allowing for the thunderstorms to develop.”It also was expected to bring muggy conditions into Thursday night, he said. Two students hospitalized after stabbing at James Lick High in San Jose

(KRON) -- Officers are responding to a stabbing that involved two students at James Lick High School in San Jose, according to the San Jose Police Department. The unknown suspect, or suspects, fled the scene before police arrived. Antioch police officers arrested by FBI, mayor says The two students, both described as juveniles, were transported to the hospital. Each had at least one stab wound. Police are investigating. The school is currently on lockdown and police are advising people to avoid the area.SJPD said it is coordinating with school district officials.This is a developing story. Check back for updates.

Connecticut official continues mayoral campaign despite facing charges in Jan. 6 case

DERBY, Connecticut (AP) — A Connecticut alderman and mayoral candidate is pressing ahead with his campaign after being charged this week by federal prosecutors with illegally entering the U.S. Capitol during the riot on Jan. 6, 2021.Gino DiGiovanni Jr. was arraigned Tuesday on four federal misdemeanor charges, including entering and remaining in a restricted building or grounds. He was not an alderman for the city of Derby at the time.“I think the evidence that will be presented will show that I am innocent,” DiGiovanni, 42, told reporters outside U.S. District Court in New Haven. BERLIN (AP) — Union Berlin signed former Germany forward Kevin Volland from French league club Monaco on Thursday, further bolstering its attack ahead of its first Champions League participation.The Bundesliga team did not disclose the length of Volland’s contract nor divulge the transfer fee for a player who scored 77 goals in 247 Bundesliga games for Hoffenheim and Bayer Leverkusen before he joined Monaco in 2020.“I practically grew up in the Bundesliga and never lost sight of it,” the 31-year-old Volland said. “I’m delighted that I’m now getting another chance to play at the highest level here at Union. Man arrested in gravesite vandalism connected to fatal 2021 New Year’s crash

Miami Police have apprehended a suspect who, they said, was responsible for vandalizing the gravesite of two people killed in West Miami-Dade on New Year’s Day in 2021.The vandalism occurred at the Caballero Rivero Woodlawn North Cemetery, located at 3260 SW 8th St., back in June. According to police, 26-year-old Brian Rodriguez is responsible for recording himself on video spray-painting and maliciously destroying a tombstone belonging to victims who lost their lives due to a drunk driving incident on Jan. 1, 2021, along West 79th Street and West Flagler Street.Rodriguez was located and taken into custody on Thursday.
