AUSTIN (KXAN) — A bill intended to end the discrimination of hairstyles associated with race was signed into law Sunday by Gov. Greg Abbott. House Bill 567, better known as the CROWN Act, cleared its final hurdle on May 12 after it was passed by the Texas Senate 29-1. It was sent to Abbott's desk on May 16 and he made it law with his signature on Sunday. It goes into effect on Sept. 1. It passed the Texas House 143-5 on April 12.The CROWN Act is an acronym for Creating a Respectful and Open World for Natural Hair, and it prohibits school districts, colleges or universities, employers or labor unions to discriminate against any protected hairstyle as part of a dress code. In the bill, protected hairstyles are "braids, locks or twists."Rep. It was the middle of March and Royce Lewis was planning ahead. He knew the date he was eligible to return from the 60-day injured list — May 29 — and exactly where the Twins would be — Houston.Of course he did.“I want to be back as soon as they let me,” he said in March. At the time, the idea of Lewis coming back the first day he was eligible to return seemed far-fetched, like extreme optimism coming from a player who desperately wanted to return after a second knee surgery. Now, it’s a reality.Twins manager Rocco Baldelli announced Sunday that Lewis will be activated from the injured list ahead of the series opener in Houston. Max Kepler, who has been on the IL with a hamstring strain, will also be activated and outfielders Kyle Garlick and Matt Wallner will be optioned to Triple-A.“I think this is a culmination of a lot of hard work from Royce,” Baldelli said. “I’m excited to see Royce back out on the field. He can jolt you with the enthusiasm and all of the exciting things that he c...Keeler: Nuggets’ Jamal Murray is writing one of NBA’s greatest comeback stories. But will national media be too lazy to notice?

These are the days you almost wish Jamal Murray would lean into the microphone and just say something really, really dumb. Dumb with feeling.Something along the lines of “The moon is made of cheese,” or “The Easter Bunny is real,” or, “I talk to squirrels and they talk back.” Just so people would pay attention.Because here’s Murray, rolling into Hollywood like a boss and a star, writing one of the best individual comeback scripts in NBA history. And Disney shrugs.Speaking of dumb with feeling, after Denver swept the Lakers out of the postseason for the first time ever, longtime basketball scribe Chris Mannix had the sheer gall to hop onto Rich Eisen’s show and say this:“Frankly, the Nuggets aren’t very interesting … People just don’t find them as interesting as some of the teams on the bottom half of the bracket. They’re just not a compelling team to talk about, to write about.”Hang on, hang on. The Nuggets aren’t (makes air quotes with fingers) “compelling?”Have you ever listened t...Gunfire erupts at party in Moreno Valley; 4 people shot
