Two unions currently in contract talks with CN Rail are heading back to the bargaining table in Montreal Monday in an attempt to avoid strike action.An assistant to the national officer tells CityNews the two sides will meet in an attempt to get a new deal together, preventing a possible walkout.Deals with Unifor Local 100 and Council 4000 — which represent 3,000 workers in mechanical, intermodal, and clerical positions across the country — expired at the end of 2022.This latest meeting comes after contract talks with the railway broke down last month. PELL CITY, Ala. (AP) — Parents are suing an east Alabama school district after they say their son received a concussion when older baseball teammates hazed him by beating him with pillows.Local news outlets report the lawsuit was filed Wednesday against the Pell City school district, the Pell City Police Department, Superintendent James Martin, the high school principal, baseball coach and others.The parents say their son attended a “midnight madness” event with baseball players in January. They say their son and others were beaten with pillows concealing unknown objects, injuring multiple boys.The lawsuit says the head coach, without calling parents to tell them about the injuries or ask for permission, gave the boy medicine and told him to go to sleep until the morning.The mother says she later received a video of of baseball players hitting someone with pillows. HOUSTON (AP) — Authorities on Sunday continued to investigate what led a man to fatally shoot himself just before deputies entered his home and found he had been living for months with a corpse.Neighbors contacted the Harris County Sheriff’s Office on Saturday evening about concerns they hadn’t seen one of the men who lived at the home for months, said Deputy Thomas Gilliland, an agency spokesman.At the home in west Houston, deputies “did notice that there were a lot of flies and a bad odor from one end of the house,” Gilliland said.After entering the home, the deputies heard a shot and found the body of a man with a self-inflicted gunshot wound, Gilliland said.“In another adjoining bedroom, they did find the body of a male also that had been severely decomposed,” Gilliland said, citing a timeframe of at least several months.He said an autopsy was planned on the decomposed body.Investigators believe the two men lived together but said they were trying to determine other ...Poilievre calls for spending cap, tax cuts in coming federal budget

SAN DIEGO (KSWB) - Eight people are dead after two suspected migrant smuggling boats overturned off the coast of San Diego overnight, authorities said.Lifeguards responded to an area near Black's Beach after a Spanish-speaking woman on one of the panga-style boats called 911 around 11:30 p.m. Saturday, according to San Diego Fire-Rescue Department spokeswoman Mónica Muñoz. The woman reported two vessels, one carrying eight people and another carrying approximately 15, had overturned, San Diego Lifeguard Chief James Garland said during a Sunday morning news conference. ‘Teacher of the Year’ re-arrested When lifeguards and Customs and Border Protection officers arrived, they found a total of eight bodies and both capsized boats, SDFD said. We really don't hear a great deal about the cyclone season there. That is, until now.Meet Cyclone Freddy. This storm has moved across the southern Indian Ocean since February 4. What's significant about this particular cyclone? It now owns the record for being the longest-living cyclone ever.The previous record holder occurred in the summer of 1994. Hurricane John, also known as Typhoon John, lasted 30 days. It was formed on August 11, 1994. The storm peaked on August 23 when winds reached up to 175 mph. It dissipated on September 13. HOOSICK FALLS, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- A 22-year-old male victim was hospitalized on Saturday after an alleged stabbing at a Hoosick Falls Cumberland Farms. The Los Angeles Rams have agreed to a trade that will send off star cornerback Jalen Ramsey to the Miami Dolphins in exchange for a third-round pick in the upcoming NFL Draft and tight end Hunter Long.
